Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®)

What is Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®)?

Extracorporeal pulse activation treatment (EPAT®) is a highly effective, noninvasive method of treatment. It is used to treat acute or chronic muscle or tendon pain by stimulating blood circulation and accelerating the healing process. The damaged tissue gradually regenerates and eventually heals. EPAT® treatment can benefit patients with heel pain (like plantar fasciitis) or Achilles tendon pain.

How is EPAT® performed?

During the EPAT® procedure, the doctor applies gel to the targeted area and then moves the device applicator over the area in circular motions. The applicator delivers pressure waves into the targeted area. The tissue gradually regenerates and eventually heals.

How long does the treatment take?

The EPAT® treatment session lasts about 15 minutes. Most patients require six sessions – performed at weekly intervals – in order to achieve the desired results.

What are the results of EPAT®?

After the EPAT® treatment, some patients may experience immediate pain relief. For others, it may take up to four weeks before significant relief is achieved. Over 80% of patients report being pain-free or have significant pain reduction.

Is EPAT® covered by insurance?

In most cases, EPAT® is not covered by insurance. If the patient has an employer-sponsored Flexible Payment Medical Savings Account, then the procedure could be covered through that account.
